Penang has been looking a little grey lately. ๐ซ๏ธ
Over the past few days, air quality readings in different parts of Penang have moved between moderate and unhealthy levels.
This is why we should not decide whether it is safe to go outside simply by looking at the sky—especially when caring for older adults.
Before bringing Mum, Dad or an elderly family member out for their morning walk, take a few seconds to check the latest API reading.
Also pay attention to changes such as persistent coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest discomfort or unusual tiredness.
How to check the API yourself
-
Visit the official MyEQMS/APIMS portal:
-
Find your area on the map and select the nearest air-quality monitoring station.
-
Check the latest API number:
-
0–50: Good
-
51–100: Moderate
-
101–200: Unhealthy
-
201–300: Very Unhealthy
-
Above 300: Hazardous
The readings may change throughout the day, so check again before bringing an elderly family member outdoors.
When the API rises above 100, reduce unnecessary outdoor exposure๏ผ
especially for older adults and those with heart or respiratory conditions.
Care starts with paying attention to the air around them. ๐
